La tela, centinata, è posta su un altare di pietra di Custoza con rivestimenti di vari marmi, dedicato alla Beata Vergine del Carmine.
La confraternita lendinarese della Morte, proprietaria della cappella, commissionò al pittore atestino Antonio Zanchi (Este 1631 - Venezia 1722) due tele: Il sacrificio della Messa in suffragio delle anime del Purgatorio, donata nel 1687 alla Santa Casa di Loreto e Madonna con il Bambino e le anime del Purgatorio per il Duomo di Santa Sofia.
In quest’ultima opera compaiono anche tre angeli che portano i simboli della Passione: croce con la corona di spine, chiodi, la canna dell’aceto) mentre nel tabernacolo sono presenti lance, dadi, tenaglia e martello emblemi della confraternita.

The Lendinara brotherhood of Death, owner of the chapel, commissioned two canvases from the Atestino painter Antonio Zanchi (Este 1631 - Venice 1722): The Sacrifice of the Mass in repose of the souls in Purgatory, donated in 1687 to the Holy House of Loreto and Madonna with Child and the souls in Purgatory for the Cathedral of Santa Sofia.
In this last work three angels also appear carrying the symbols of the Passion: cross with the crown of thorns, nails, the vinegar barrel) while in the tabernacle there are spears, dice, pincers and hammer emblems of the brotherhood.
